A few weeks ago I was invited along to Cane & Grain in Manchester’s Northern Quarter to try out their brand new Science and Industry menu.
Cane & Grain is set over three floors and features The Rib Joint & Tap Room, The Liars Lounge and of course the newly rebranded Science and Industry floor!
Upon arrival, we were greeted by Massimo Zitti, creator of the cutting-edge cocktails we would be trying.
The team had kindly opened up the mixology room for us to have a look around. It was so cool to see where the magic happens (or in this case, science!)
After looking around the space, we were treated to three cocktails off the brand-spanking new menu!
First up was a Mexican Gimlet. Made with Lemon Verbena Cordial, Sicilian Verbena is gently infused in water adding sugar, organic lemon zests and citric acid. The cocktail was finished off with a toasted marshmallow which was a nice touch to a gorgeous drink.
Next up was a Mr Bradsell. Massimo explained to us that it’s named after the legendary bar tender and is a twist on the most popular British cocktail ever made- The Bramble.
To create this Cane & Grain twist on the classic, Infused Chamomile Copper Head Gin is blended together with fresh lemon juice, salted blackberry & vanilla cordial and smoked black tea.
Lastly, we were wowed by a Negroni Ristretto. Made with Coffee Negroni Reduction, ice and Orange mist, this cocktail is definitely the show-stopper of the evening. The edible perfume created by the extraction of orange zests with neutral grain spirit created a flavoured mist that gave the effect of a hot coffee pot.
Cane & Grain’s new menu fit the theme of the first floor bar perfectly and Massimo created an outstanding range of cocktails that scream just that…science and industry.
