Three Days In Hamburg

I started off 2017 right with a trip to Hamburg! I’ve proclaimed this year my year of travel so what better than to jet off for three days to a City that has been on my European wish list forever!?

We arrived in Hamburg on the 2nd January and made our way to our hotel, Mercure Hamburg City. During our time in the City, we had a pass that allowed us to travel on all the local transportation as much as we wanted for three days. It made everything so easy, rather than having to buy separate tickets for every journey.

The trains are really frequent and extremely easy to use, so after a short journey with one change, we were a two-minute walk away from our hotel.

After settling in, we made our way to Hauptbahnhof for a hop-on hop-off sight seeing bus tour. This lasted 90 minutes and we learnt and saw so much! The tour was in both German and English so we had no problem following the guide’s commentary.

We saw everything from million-euro homes to lakes, castles and gardens!

After the tour had finished, we hit the shops before heading back to our hotel for dinner.

The next day consisted of more exploring the different stops on the train and a visit to the Miniatur Wunderland.

Miniatur Wunderland is Hamburg’s biggest tourist attractions and it was easy to see why. It features one of the world’s largest model railways and you can explore the world in three magnificent rooms.

After leaving Miniatur Wunderland, we explored St. Pauli and visited a few gift shops to pick up some little bits for friends and family. The Hard Rock Café was right next door so it was a great excuse to grab some lunch.

Once back at the hotel, I did a little blogging and catching up with emails before heading down to the hotel bar for cocktails.

On our final day, we had a few hours before we had to be at the airport so decided to grab some lunch. We chose Better Burger Company.

The staff were happy to help and explain the menu to us as it was entirely in German- you choose what meat you would like, up to five toppings and a sauce. I went for a beef burger with tomato, lettuce, onions and BBQ sauce- I’m not even exaggerating when I say it was the best burger EVER!!

I was so sad to be leaving Hamburg and I’m already planning on going back. We saw so much in the few short days we were there but there is SO much more to see!
