5 Broadway Musicals To See This Summer

9th July 2019

From the multi-Tony award-winning musicals to the newer hits that’ll have you coming back for more, Broadway is the place to be. Whether you’re after a tear-jerking drama or a rip-roaring comedy, a visit to Broadway is a bucket list must do and there’s no better time than this Summer to pay a visit.

The Cher Show

Neil Simon Theatre

From $59

She’s pushed boundaries of pop culture and has let nobody get in her way. This fabulous Tony-award winning musical tells the story of pop legend Cher, starting from her childhood and taking you right through the journey that has made her the true icon that she is today. Starring Broadway royalty Stephanie J. Block, The Cher Show will have you singing your heart out and dancing your way down the aisles. You’ll have to be quick though, as The Cher show sadly closes on August 18. Believe me, you don’t want to miss this one.

Sea Wall/A Life

Hudson Theatre

From $69

For a limited 9 week only run, Sea Wall/A Life comes to the Hudson Theatre. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge, Sea Wall/A Life tells the tale of Alex, a photographer on holiday with his family in the South of France and Abe, a music producer with a baby on the way. Their incredible stories have left audiences on their feet and you’ll leave the theatre with memories you will never forget.

Come From Away

Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre

From $79

Come From Away tells the incredibly inspiring true story of 9/11 and the weeks that followed. This remarkable musical takes you into the heart of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.

Mean Girls

August Wilson Theatre

From $79.50

Take a trip to North Shore High and get ready to choose your clique at Mean Girls. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the show – I saw Mean Girls back in December – and I would definitely recommend it to everyone. Based upon the 2004 movie of the same name and with a book by Tina Fey, Mean Girls tells the tale of Cady Heron, a 16-year-old girl who moves from Africa to the US. Cady is adjusting to life in a public high school and after meeting new friends Janis and Damian, she quickly learns the rules of the pecking order. Cue Regina George…

Hadestown

Walter Kerr Theatre

From $185

Winner of 8 Tony Awards, including ‘Best Musical’, Hadestown invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. The breathtaking musical intertwines two mythical tales – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone. This must-see show is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that will grab you and never let you go.
